What are Yasmin Birth Control Pills Used For?

Yasmin contraceptive pills are orally administered as birth control pills to prevent the incidence of pregnancy. Yasmin contraceptive pills contain a combination of 2 female sex hormones: an estrogen (Ethinyl estradiol) and a progestin (Drospirenone). The hormone combination prevents the release of an egg (ovulation) during the menstrual cycle and also thickens the vaginal fluid to prevent the union of the sperm with egg (fertilization). Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol also alter the lining of the uterus (womb) to thwart the attempts of a fertilized egg from attaching to it. The inability of a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus results in its expulsion from the body, thus effectively averting the possibility of pregnancy.
Women who practice oral contraception methods can also use Yasmin Birth Control Pills to treat the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) such as anxiety, depression, irritability, trouble concentrating, lack of energy, sleep or appetite changes, breast tenderness, joint or muscle pain, headache, and weight gain. Women older than 14 years of age can use Yasmin Birth Control Pills to treat mild to moderate acne conditions, provided they concurrently wish to use Yasmin birth control pills as an oral method of contraception.
Women experiencing heavy, painful or erratic menstrual periods are also recommended treatment with Yasmin Contraceptive Pills. Women who use Yasmin for birth control purposes may experience certain beneficial conditions such as regular and lighter menstrual periods, lesser pain during the menses and reduction in the risk of developing ovarian cysts. Yasmin Contraceptive Pills will not protect you or your partner against the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia). Please use barrier methods such as condoms for such purposes.

Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol Mechanism of Action – How Does Yasmin Work?

Yasmin birth control pills contains a combination of two active ingredients, Drospirenone and Ethinyl estradiol. Drospirenone is a synthetic version of the female sex hormone called progesterone, while Ethinyl estradiol is an artificial form of another female sex hormone called estrogen. Drospirenone and Ethinyl estradiol are together used for the treatment of certain serious cases of acne in women by adjusting the hormones that control the health of skin.
Yasmin oral contraceptives are used to prevent the incidence of pregnancy in women who are using it for the treatment of mild to moderate acne and symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Yasmin Birth Control Pill is a combined oral contraceptive pill which contains a progestogen (Drospirenone) and an oestrogen hormone (Ethinyl estradiol). The combination of hormones in the Yasmin birth control pills imitates the conditions of ovulation in the body, thus tricking the biological system into considering that ovulation has already occurred. Due to this deception, the ovaries do not release a mature egg each month during ovulation.
The hormone combination also increases the mucus thickness of the cervix, making sperm entry into the uterus (womb) difficult.
This prevents fertilization of the egg by the sperm. The hormone combination in Yasmin Birth Control Pills also alter the thickness of the womb lining (endometrium), making implantation more difficult for a fertilized egg. This three-pronged approach helps to effectively avert the possibility of pregnancy in women every month.
