Diane-35 Birth Control Tablets - Product Information

Diane-35 is an oral contraceptive, which is popularly known as "The Pill." Diane-35 tablets contain a combination of two hormones as active ingredients, cyproterone and ethinyl estradiol. Each pack of Diane-35 consists of 28 pills, of which 21 active pills contain the combination of the active ingredients while the remaining 7 pills are known as the dummy pills because they are devoid of the active ingredients. Women also use Diane-35 pills to treat the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Diane-35 tablets are primarily used to cure moderate to severe acne in women who are over 14 years of age and have had unsuccessful results with antibiotics and other medications. Diane-35 birth control pills treat acne problems by having an effect on the hormones that control the skin.

Diane-35 contraceptive pills are orally administered as birth control pills. Women who practice oral contraception methods can use Diane-35 tablets to treat the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Women older than 14 years of age can use Diane-35 tablets to treat acne conditions when other antibiotic treatments have been unsuccessful, provided they simultaneously wish to use Diane-35 as an oral method of contraception.
Women experiencing heavy, painful or erratic menstrual periods are also recommended treatment with Diane-35 pills. Diane-35 tablets are also used to treat mild to moderate cases of hirsutism (excessive growth of facial or body hair). Women who use Diane-35 for birth control purposes may experience certain beneficial conditions such as regular and lighter menstrual periods, lesser pain during the menses, noticeable difference in oiliness of skin and hair.
The incidence of medical conditions such as pelvic inflammatory disease, ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancy, fibrocystic breast changes and cancer of the uterus (womb) and ovaries are known to be less common in women who take Diane-35 tablets.

Instructions To Use Diane-35 Pills - Drug Dosage

A pack of Diane-35 contraceptive tablets contains 21 active pills and 7 dummy pills. The schedule for Diane-35 tablets follows the 28-day menstrual cycle: each of the 21 active pills should be consumed daily for 21 days, followed by a gap of 7 days when the 7 dummy pills should be consumed. The first day of treatment is the first day of the menstrual cycle. Diane-35 tablets should be swallowed along with a glass of water, before or after meals.
You should stick to taking Diane-35 birth control tablets at the same time every day. Visible results for acne conditions are usually observed after a few months of Diane-35 treatment. Once the acne has been completely cured, Diane-35 pills should be continued for about 3 to 4 menstrual cycles for complete and thorough healing.
Your doctor may vary the dose and dosage period depending on your medical condition, your response to treatment, body weight, and other medications or contraception that you may be using.
Avoid starting any new medications without consulting your doctor during the course of Diane-35 pills.

Diane–35 Birth Control Pills - Missed Dose Instructions

If you forget to take one or more of your doses of Diane-35 pills, please follow the instructions below:

  • If you miss one Diane-35 pill:
If you forget to take one Diane-35 pill, or are delayed by a day in starting a new pack of Diane-35 contraceptive tablets, you should take the missed pill as soon as you remember. If you miss two or more Diane-35 pills:

  • If you forget to take two or more Diane-35 pills, or are behind your regular schedule for starting the new pack of Diane-35 tablets by two or more days, you will be at a risk for pregnancy. You should take the missed pill as soon as your remember and continue to take the remaining Diane-35 pills, once daily, as per the regular schedule. However, you should either abstain from sex, or practice an additional barrier method of contraception (condoms), for the next seven days.
  • If you practiced unprotected sex seven days prior to the days you missed the Diane-35 oral contraceptive pills, you may need to take an emergency contraception (the morning after pill). Consult your doctor for further advice.
  • If there are lesser than seven pills left in your pack of Diane-35 pills after your last missed pill, you should finish the pack and then start a new pack of Diane-35 tablets right away without a gap. This means you should skip the 7 pill-free days.
  • If there are seven or more pills left in your pack of Diane-35 pills after your last missed pill, you should finish the pack of Diane-35 pills and have your 7 pill-free according to the regular schedule before starting the next pack.
  • If you face any other scenario during your treatment with Diane-35 oral contraceptive tablets, please contact your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

Diane-35 Mechanism of Action – How Does Cyproterone and Ethinyl Estradiol Work?

Diane-35 pills holds a combination of two active ingredients, Cyproterone and Ethinyl estradiol. Cyproterone belongs to a group of medications identified as antiandrogens, while Ethinyl estradiol belongs to a group of medications called estrogens. Cyproterone and Ethinyl estradiol are together used for the treatment of certain serious cases of acne in women that have been unsuccessful with other primary treatment such as antibiotics. Diane-35 tablets works by adjusting the hormones that control the health of skin.
Diane-35 pills belongs to the class of oral contraceptives which can be used to prevent pregnancy in women who are using it for the treatment of androgenisation symptoms such as treatment of acne. Diane-35 pills is a combined oral contraceptive pill which contains a progestogen (Cyproterone) and an oestrogen hormone (Ethinyl estradiol). The daily dose of combination hormones in the Diane-35 pill produces fake ovulation circumstances in the body and makes it seem like ovulation has already occurred.
Based on this scenario, the release of a mature egg is prevented from the ovaries each month.
The hormone combination also increases the mucus thickness of the cervix, making sperm entry into the uterus (womb) difficult. This prevents fertilization of the egg by the sperm. The hormone combination in Diane-35 tablets also alter the thickness of the womb lining (endometrium), making implantation more difficult for a fertilized egg.
