Some topical tretinoin products may be used to help improve how fine wrinkles on the face look or to treat other skin diseases as determined by your doctor. One of the tretinoin creams is used to treat fine wrinkles, dark spots, or rough skin on the face caused by the damaging rays of the sun. It works by lightening the skin, replacing older skin with newer skin, and slowing down the way the body removes skin cells that may have been harmed by the sun. Tretinoin works best when used within a skin care program that includes protecting the treated skin from the sun.
Topical tretinoin may also be used for other conditions as determined by your healthcare provider.
Retino-A Cream - Dosage
Generic Tretinoin Cream should be administered exactly as suggested by your doctor. Your doctor may recommend a dosage of Retino-A Cream depending on your age, medical requirement, body weight, other medical conditions, and current medications.
Retino-A Cream (Generic Tretinoin 0.05% and 0.025% Cream) should be applied once daily, before bedtime, to the skin where acne lesions appear, using a thin layer to cover the entire affected area. Tretinoin cream should be kept away from the eyes, the mouth, paranasal creases, and mucous membranes. Application of excessive amounts of cream will not provide incremental efficacy.
Patients treated with tretinoin cream may use cosmetics, but the areas to be treated should be cleansed thoroughly before the medication is applied.
When treating with Retino-A Cream, caution should be exercised with the use of concomitant topical over-the-counter preparations, topical medications, medicated or abrasive soaps and cleansers, products that have strong drying effect, and products with high concentrations of alcohol, astringents, spices, or lime. Particular caution should be exercised with acne preparations containing benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid. Allow the effects of such preparations to subside before use of Tretinoin Cream has begun.
Tretinoin Cream works effectively if the amount of Tretinoin is maintained at a constant level in the body. You should be systematic about the daily schedule for the medication such that you take tablets at about the same time every day, to get the maximum benefit of the medication. Continue using Retino-A Cream without missing any doses for the recommended treatment period and do not stop the treatment suddenly even if you feel better.
Retino-A cream is for topical use only. Not for ophthalmic, oral, or intravaginal use. Please consult your doctor for exact dosing instructions. Retino-A Cream (Generic Tretinoin Cream) should be administered in the dose prescribed by the doctor and for the duration recommended by the doctor.
Missed Dose
If you forget to take your regular Retino-A Cream dose on time, administer it whenever you remember.
If you remember the next day, skip the missed dose and take your scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose to compensate the missed dose.
Retino-A Cream Mechanism of Action
Although the exact mode of action of Tretinoin (Retino-A Cream) is unknown, current evidence suggests that topical tretinoin decreases cohesiveness of follicular epithelial cells with decreased microcomedo formation.
Additionally, Tretinoin stimulates mitotic activity and increased turnover of follicular epithelial cells causing extrusion of the comedones.
