A-Ret Gel is a vitamin A derivative which is used for the treatment of various skin conditions such as Acne vulgaris (acne), photoaging and melasma. The active ingredient in A-Ret Gel is Tretinoin, which is a synthetic version of vitamin A that aids the renewal of new skin cells.

The active pharmaceutical ingredient in A-Ret Gel is Tretinoin.
Each 20 g tube of A-Ret Gel contains 0.025%, 0.05%, or 0.1% of Tretinoin. The inactive ingredients in A-Ret Gel are purified water, carbomer 974P (0.04% formulation), carbomer 934P (0.1% formulation), glycerin, disodium EDTA, propylene glycol, sorbic acid, PPG-20 methyl glucose ether distearate, cyclomethicone and dimethicone copolyol, benzyl alcohol, trolamine, and butylated hydroxytoluene.

A-Ret Gel Dosage - How to Apply Generic Tretinoin Gel?

Generic Tretinoin Gel should be used exactly as suggested by your doctor. Your doctor may suggest a dosage depending on your medical condition, age, body weight, other medical conditions, and other current medications.
Tretinoin Gel should be applied only to the affected areas of skin, preferably at bedtime or as suggested by your doctor. Avoid using excessive amounts of A-Ret Gel because it may result in the manifestation of side effects such dizziness; excessive redness, peeling, and discomfort; flushing; headache; stomach pain. Tretinoin cream may be harmful if swallowed.
Before applying Tretinoin Gel, wash the affected area with warm and mild soap. Dry the area thoroughly with a towel and wait for another 10 minutes for the area to be completely dry before you start applying Generic Tretinoin Gel. Gently rub A-Ret Gel as a thin layer into the area of treatment until the Gel is uniformly spread. Do not wash your face for about an hour after applying Tretinoin Gel. Avoid sensitive areas like the area around the eyes, lips, and nostrils while applying Tretinoin Gel. If Tretinoin Gel is accidently applied in these areas, you should flush the areas thoroughly with plenty of water. Wash your hands immediately after using Tretinoin Gel.
Tretinoin Gel should be used regularly to achieve its maximum therapeutic benefit. Use Tretinoin Gel at around the same time every day to help you better remember your dosage and to avoid missing a dose. Generic Tretinoin Gel should be applied only on the skin. Patients should continue the treatment with A-Ret gel for the prescribed treatment period even if the symptoms have cleared. It may take about 3 to 6 weeks before you notice the complete therapeutic benefit of Tretinoin Gel.

How Long Does it Take for Tretinoin to Work?

The visible improvements in the affected areas of skin are usually noticed within three to four weeks of regular use.
Patients using Tretinoin Gel ( A-Ret Gel)  have reported that brown spots usually  take about six to eight weeks and fine wrinkles start to disappear after three to six months of use.

A-Ret Gel Mechanism of Action – How Does Tretinoin Gel Work?

Tretinoin Gel, which belongs to a class of medications called as retinoids, is a synthetic version of vitamin A. Generic Tretinoin Gel is recommended as topical therapy of mild to moderate acne and for skin that has undergone harm due to extreme sun exposure.

Storage Instructions for Tretinoin Gel

Store the pack of Tretinoin Gel at room temperature (20 – 25°C), protected from heat, moisture, and sunlight. Retain the original packing of the medication and do not use Tretinoin Gel beyond its expiration date.
Keep the pack of Generic Tretinoin Gel away from the reach of children and pets. Do not discard Tretinoin Gel along with domestic waste or sewage. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about the correct method of disposal.

Warnings and Precautions to be taken when using A-Ret Gel

Medical History
Before beginning the treatment with A-Ret Gel (Generic Tretinoin Gel), discuss your personal and family medical history with your doctor. Inform your doctor if you have any existing medical conditions which may affect the treatment with Tretinoin Gel. Let your doctor known if you have eczema.
Allergy
Please inform your doctor if you have an allergy or have had an allergic reaction in the past to Tretinoin or to any inactive ingredient in A-Ret Gel. Please tell your doctor if you have any other allergies.  
Tretinoin Interactions
Before beginning the therapy of Tretinoin Gel, please tell your doctor about all your present medications including prescription drugs, over the counter medications, mineral supplements, herbal products, and vitamins. Generic Tretinoin Gel may have drug interactions with certain other medications. Inform your doctor if you are using a diuretic (water pill); tetracycline (Sumycin, Panmycin, Robitet), minocycline (Minocin), doxycycline (Doryx, Vibramycin), demeclocycline (Declomycin), and others; an antibiotic such as ciprofloxacin (Cipro), ofloxacin (Floxin), and others; a sulfa drug such as Bactrim, Septra, Cotrim, and others; or chlorpromazine (Thorazine), prochlorperazine (Compazine), fluphenazine (Permitil, Prolixin), promethazine (Phenergan, Promethegan), perphenazine (Trilafon), and others.

Tretinoin Gel Contraindications

Generic Tretinoin Gel is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to Tretinoin or any inactive ingredient present in A-Ret Gel.

Side Effects of Tretinoin Gel

The following side effects have been reported during the course of treatment with A-Ret Gel (Generic Tretinoin Gel):

  • Hypersensitivity- burning, irritation, blistering, hives, peeling, itching, redness, rash, stinging, burning, swelling of the skin at the site of treatment
  • Allergic Reaction- shortness of breath, closing of throat, swelling of lips/face/tongue, hives
  • General- eye irritation (e.g., stinging, watering), trouble sleeping, irritability, temporary hair loss

Tretinoin Gel is a Pregnancy Category C medication.
The administration of Tretinoin Gel (A-Ret Gel) during pregnancy is not known to result in the occurrence of development defects in the growing fetus. It is not known if Tretinoin can be transmitted through breast milk. However, nursing mothers should not breastfeed a baby during their treatment with Tretinoin Gel because the risk of hazards to the developing child is not known.
