Rifaximin Mechanism of Action – How Does Rifagut Work?
Rifaximin tablets are antibiotics which are beneficial for the treatment of bacterial infections of the intestines. Rifaximin restricts the transcription of bacterial DNA by attaching to the ß-subunit of bacterial RNA polymerase, resulting in the obstruction of the translocation step that generally occurs after the establishment of the first phosphodiester bond in the transcription process.
Inhibition of the vital transcription process shuts down the cell machinery of the bacteria, eventually resulting in its death.
