Novamox Dosage - How to Take Amoxycillin Capsules?
You should use Novamox capsules exactly as recommended by your doctor. Your doctor may suggest a dosage of Novamox capsules depending on the severity of your bacterial infection, body weight, other medical conditions, and current medications.
Amoxycillin trihydrate capsules should be taken with a glass of water, after a meal to avoid indigestion problems. Try to maintain a regular schedule for the medication such that you take Generic Amoxycillin capsules at the same time every day, to get the maximum benefit of the medication.
The recommended dosage of Amoxycillin capsules for most bacterial infections is 250 mg every 8 hours, 500 mg every 8 hours, 500 mg every 12 hours or 875 mg every 12 hours. Your doctor may alter the dosage of Novamox capsules and dosage period depending on the type and severity of your infection and your response to treatment.
The suggested dose for severe or frequent chest infections is 3 g twice daily administered orally. For simple urinary tract infections, the optimal dose for adults is two 3 g doses administered orally with a gap of 10 to 12 hours between doses (short course).
For the treatment of dental abscesses, the optimal dose is two 3 g doses administered orally with a gap of 8 hours between doses. For gonorrhea, treatment is suggested with a single 3 g dose administered orally.
For stomach ulcers, the recommended dose is 1 x 750 mg or 1 x 1 g twice a day for 7 days in combination with other antibiotics.
For most bacterial infections, children older than 3 months but less than 40 kg are recommended a dosage of with 25 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 12 hours, 20 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 8 hours, 40 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 8 hours or 45 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 12 hours depending on type and severity of the bacterial infection.
It is imperative that you complete the recommended course of treatment with Novamox capsules even if you feel better or it seems the infection has cleared up. Discontinuing the treatment course prematurely will escalate the risk of the infection relapse and the bacteria will grow resistant to the antibiotic treatment.

Novamox Mechanism of Action - How Does Amoxycillin Work?
Novamox (Generic Amoxycillin capsules) is a penicillin antibiotic. Like other antibiotics, Novamox capsules do not actually kill the bacteria but rather obstructs the multiplication of the bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. Amoxycillin trihydrate damages the molecular bonds that hold the cell wall together. The bacterial cell wall protects the bacteria from the surroundings and helps to maintain the bacterial contents without any damage.
It also protects the bacteria from any foreign invasion. The absence of a cell wall has lethal consequences for the bacteria and the bacterial survival becomes difficult.
Amoxycillin trihydrate exerts its bactericidal effect against a broad range of bacteria such as H. influenzae, N. gonorrhoea, E. coli, Pneumococci, Streptococci, and certain strains of Staphylococci that cause urine infections, certain sexually-transmitted infections, dental infections, and infections affecting the blood or internal organs.

Overdose
In case of overdosage, discontinue medication, treat symptomatically, and institute supportive measures as required. If the overdosage is very recent and there is no contraindication, an attempt at emesis or other means of removal of drug from the stomach may be performed. Interstitial nephritis resulting in oliguric renal failure has been reported in a small number of patients after overdosage with amoxicillin.
Crystalluria, in some cases leading to renal failure, has also been reported after Amoxicillin overdosage in adult and pediatric patients. In case of overdosage, adequate fluid intake and diuresis should be maintained to reduce the risk of amoxicillin crystalluria.
Renal impairment appears to be reversible with cessation of drug administration. High blood levels may occur more readily in patients with impaired renal function because of decreased renal clearance of amoxicillin. Amoxicillin may be removed from circulation by hemodialysis.
