Generic Montelukast Sodium Tablets (Montair 4 mg, 5 mg and 10 mg) - Product Information

Montair tablets, also known as Montelukast Sodium generic are leukotriene inhibitors. Montair tablets contain Montelukast Sodium as the active ingredient.
When an allergen (such as pollen) enters the respiratory tract, the body releases a chemical known as leukotriene which causes swelling of the lungs and also tightens the muscles surrounding the airways. These consequences result in the development of asthma symptoms.
Montelukast Sodium tablets are administered for the treatment of asthma in adults and children who are at least 12 months old. Montelukast Sodium tablets are beneficial for the treatment of bronchoconstriction (narrowing of the air passages in the lungs), a condition which develops due to exercise. The administration of Montelukast Sodium tablets helps to prevent this bronchospasm in adults and children who are at least 15 years old and are not taking Montelukast Sodium tablets for asthma and other allergy treatment.
Treatment with Montelukast Sodium tablets is also recommended in adult patients and children who are at least 6 months old for the treatment of allergies that occur anytime during the year (perennial allergies). Montelukast Sodium Mechanism of Action – How Does Montair Work?

Montelukast Sodium is a medication used for the treatment of asthma and related breathing problems. Montelukast Sodium tablets belongs to the class of drugs known as leukotriene receptor antagonist which works by blocking the action of chemicals called leukotrienes, released by the body as a mechanism to combat allergic and inflammatory reactions.
When leukotrienes are released from the lungs in people with asthma, it causes inflammation and increases the synthesis of mucus in the airways. Leukotrienes also contract the muscles lining the airways, thus narrowing the respiratory airways. This makes the passage of air through the lungs difficult.
When people with seasonal allergies, such as hay fever, inhale substances (allergens, pollen) that initiate allergic reactions, leukotrienes are released from the nasal passages. Leukotrienes are responsible for the symptoms of allergic reactions and hay fever, such as a runny or blocked nose, sneezing and itchy nose.
Montair tablets prevents the action of leukotrienes in the nose and relieves hay fever symptoms in people with asthma who have hay fever.
Montelukast Sodium tablets blocks leukotriene receptors in the lungs and, as a result, prevent the actions of the leukotrienes. Montelukast Sodium tablets inhibit the production of excess mucus, inflammation of the respiratory pathway and narrowing of the airways resulting in asthma attacks. It is also useful for preventing asthma which results due to exercise routines.
