Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient

The active ingredient present in Budecort inhaler is Budesonide.
Each actuation delivers 100 mcg or 200 mcg of Budesonide IP.

Uses of Budecort Inhaler (Budesonide Inhaler)

Budecort Inhaler (Budesonide Inhaler) is used to help prevent the symptoms of asthma. When used regularly every day, inhaled budesonide decreases the number and severity of asthma attacks. However, it will not relieve an asthma attack that has already started.
Budesonide is a corticosteroid or steroid (cortisone-like medicine). It works by preventing inflammation (swelling) in the lungs, which makes the asthma attack less severe. Inhaled Budesonide may be used with other asthma medicines such as bronchodilators, which are also used to open up narrowed breathing passages in the lungs.

Budecort Inhaler (Generic Budesonide Inhaler) - Dosage

Generic Budesonide Inhaler should be administered exactly as suggested by your doctor. Your doctor may recommend a dosage of Budecort inhaler depending on your age, medical requirement, body weight, other medical conditions, and current medications.
Adults (including elderly) and Children over 12 Years
200-1,600 mcg daily, in divided doses.
200 mcg twice daily, in the morning and in the evening. During periods of severe asthma the daily dosage can be increased up to 1600 mcg.
In less severe cases and children over 12 years of age, 200 - 800 micrograms daily, in divided doses, may be used.
In patients whose asthma is well controlled, the daily dose may be reduced below 400 mcg but should not go below 200 mcg.
Patients should be maintained on the lowest dose that will effectively control symptoms.

Children (5 - 12 Years)
200-800 mcg daily, in divided doses.
The dose should be reduced to the minimum needed to maintain good asthma control.
Patients should be maintained on the lowest dose that will effectively control symptoms.
Budecort inhalers work effectively if the amount of Budesonide is maintained at a constant level in the body. You should be systematic about the daily schedule for the medication such that you administer Budecort inhaler at about the same time every day, to get the maximum benefit of the medication. Continue using Budecort inhaler without missing any doses for the recommended treatment period and do not stop the treatment suddenly even if you feel better.

Please consult your doctor for exact dosing instructions. Budecort Inhaler(Generic Budesonide Inhaler) should be administered in the dose prescribed by the doctor and for the duration recommended by the doctor.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take your regular Budecort Inhaler dose on time, take it whenever you remember.
If you remember the next day, skip the missed dose and take your scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose to compensate the missed dose.

Budesonide Inhaler Mechanism of Action – How Does Budecort Inhaler Work?

People with asthma have ongoing airflow problems in the lungs. Budecort Inhaler is an inhaled corticosteroid that decreases the inflammation of the airways in your lungs, which helps improve airflow and make breathing easier.
The precise mechanism of corticosteroid actions on inflammation in asthma is not known. Inflammation is an important component in the pathogenesis of asthma.
Corticosteroids have been shown to have a wide range of inhibitory activities against multiple cell types (eg, mast cells, eosinophils, neutrophils, macrophages, and lymphocytes) and mediators (eg, histamine, eicosanoids, leukotrienes, and cytokines) involved in allergic and non-allergic-mediated inflammation.
These anti-inflammatory actions of corticosteroids may contribute to their efficacy in asthma.

Budesonide Inhaler (Budecort Inhaler) During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Budesonide Inhaler (Budecort Inhaler) has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category B.
As with other glucocorticoids, budesonide produced fetal loss, decreased pup weight, and skeletal abnormalities at subcutaneous doses of 25 mcg/kg/day in rabbits (less than the maximum recommended human daily inhalation dose on a mcg/m2 basis) and 500 mcg/kg/day in rats (approximately 3 times the maximum recommended human daily inhalation dose on a mcg/m2 basis). No teratogenic or embryocidal effects were observed in rats when Budesonide was administered by inhalation at doses up to 250 mcg/kg/day (equivalent to the maximum recommended human daily inhalation dose on a mcg/m2 basis).
Studies of pregnant women, however, have not shown that inhaled budesonide increases the risk of abnormalities when administered during pregnancy. Despite the animal findings, it would appear that the possibility of fetal harm is remote if the drug is used during pregnancy. Nevertheless, because the studies in humans cannot rule out the possibility of harm, Budesonide Inhaler (Budecort Inhaler) should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
Do not use this medicine without your doctor's consent in case you are pregnant. Stop using this medication and inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment.
Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
