Ciplactin Tablets - Dosage

Generic Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride tablets should be administered exactly as suggested by your doctor. Dosage should be individualized according to the needs and the response of the patient. Your doctor will recommend a dosage of Ciplactin tablets depending on your age, medical requirement, body weight, other medical conditions, and current medications.
Adult Dosage:
The total daily dose for adults should not exceed 0.5 mg/kg/day. The therapeutic range is 4 to 20 mg a day, with the majority of patients requiring 12 to 16 mg a day. An occasional patient may require as much as 32 mg a day for adequate relief. It is suggested that dosage be initiated with 4 mg (one tablet) three times a day and adjusted according to the size and response of the patient.
Ciplactin tablets work effectively if the amount of Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride is maintained at a constant level in the body. You should be systematic about the daily schedule for the medication such that you take Ciplactin tablets at about the same time every day, to get the maximum benefit of the medication. Continue taking tablets without missing any doses for the recommended treatment period and do not stop the treatment suddenly even if you feel better.

Please consult your doctor for exact dosing instructions. Ciplactin tablets (Generic Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride tablets) should be administered in the dose prescribed by the doctor and for the duration recommended by the doctor.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take your regular Ciplactin tablet dose on time, take it whenever you remember.
If you remember the next day, skip the missed dose and take your scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose to compensate the missed dose.

Cyproheptadine Hydrochloride Mechanism of Action

Cyproheptadine is an antihistamine. It works by blocking the effect of a substance in your body called histamine.
Cyproheptadine appears to exert its antihistamine and antiserotonin effects by competing with free histamine and serotonin for binding at their respective receptors. Antagonism of serotonin on the appetite center of the hypothalamus may account for Cyproheptadine's ability to stimulate the appetite.

When life-threatening CNS signs and symptoms are present, intravenous physostigmine salicylate may be considered.
Saline cathartics, as milk of magnesia, draw water into the bowel by osmosis and, therefore, are valuable for their action in rapid dilution of bowel contents.
