Restasis Eye Drops (Cyclosporine 0.05% Ophthalmic Emulsion) - Product Information
Restasis Eye Drops (Cyclosporine Ophthalmic Emulsion) are used to increase tear production in patients who have dry eyes due to eye inflammation (eg, keratoconjunctivitis sicca). This medicine may be used to treat vernal keratoconjunctivitis (allergic eye condition) and signs and symptoms of dry eye disease.
The active ingredient, Cyclosporine, is an immune inhibitor. It limits the production of enzymes that cause inflammation. Blocking eye inflammation that way helps increase tear fluid production, improving eye moisture.
Restasis Eye Drops manufactured by Allergan (USA) , are available in the strengths of 0.05% of Cyclosporine.
We also have in stock Careprost ophthalmic solution (Bimatoprost eye drops) which is used to treat certain diseases of the eye like open-angle glaucoma and ocular (eye) hypertension which occurs in many people as they grow older.

Uses of Restasis Ophthalmic Solution (Cyclosporine Eye Drops)
Restasis Ophthalmic Solution (Cyclosporine Eye Drops) 0.05% and 0.1% is a calcineurin inhibitor immunosuppressant used to increase tear production in patients whose tear production is presumed to be suppressed due to ocular inflammation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca. Increased tear production was not seen in patients currently taking topical anti-inflammatory drugs or using punctal plugs.
Restasis Eye Drops (Cyclosporine 0.05% Ophthalmic Emulsion) - Dosage
Restasis Eye Drops should be administered exactly as suggested by your doctor. Your doctor may recommend a dosage of Restasis Eye Drops depending on your age, medical requirement, body weight, other medical conditions, and current medications.
Instill one drop of Restasis ophthalmic emulsion twice a day in each eye approximately 12 hours apart. This recommended dose is the maximum recommended dose and should be used both as the starting dose and throughout long term treatment.
Continue using Cyclosporine Ophthalmic Solution without missing any doses for the recommended treatment period and do not stop the treatment suddenly even if you feel better. Please consult your doctor for exact dosing instructions. Restasis Eye Drops (Generic Cyclosporine 0.05% and 0.1% Ophthalmic Solution) should be administered in the dose prescribed by the doctor and for the duration recommended by the doctor.
Missed Dose
If you forget to administer your regular Restasis Eye Drops dose on time, use it whenever you remember.
However, if it is almost time for the next dose, the missed dose should be skipped, and the regular dosing schedule resumed. Doses should not be doubled. The dose should not exceed two drops in the affected eye(s) daily.
Mechanism of Action
Cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion primarily functions as an immunomodulator to increase tear production in dry eye disease. It achieves this by inhibiting the activation of T-cells, which are immune cells involved in the inflammatory process associated with dry eye. By reducing T-cell activity, cyclosporine helps decrease inflammation in the eye, allowing the lacrimal glands to produce more tears
In patients whose tear production is presumed to be suppressed due to ocular inflammation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca, Cyclosporine emulsion is thought to act as a partial immunomodulator.

Warnings and Precautions
Potential For Eye Injury And Contamination:
To avoid the potential for eye injury and contamination, advise patients not to touch the vial tip to the eye or other surfaces
Use with Contact Lenses:
Cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion should not be administered while wearing contact lenses. Patients with decreased tear production typically should not wear contact lenses. If contact lenses are worn, they should be removed prior to the administration of the emulsion. Lenses may be reinserted 15 minutes following administration of cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion.
Immune
There is the potential to experience hypersensitivity to Restasis Eye Drops. Reactions of severe angioedema, face swelling, tongue swelling, pharyngeal edema, dyspnea and urticaria have been reported with the use of Cyclosporine 0.05% and 0.1% Eye Drops.
Driving and Operating Machinery
Restasis Eye Drops may cause transient blurred vision due to its emulsion formulation. If patients experience blurred vision, they should be advised not to drive or operate machinery until vision has cleared.
Ophthalmologic
Restasis Eye Drops has not been studied in patients with a history of herpes keratitis, end stage lacrimal gland disease, keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) secondary to the destruction of conjunctival goblet cells such as occurs with Vitamin A deficiency, or scarring, such as occurs with cicatricial pemphigoid, alkali burns, Stevens Johnson syndrome, trachoma, or irradiation .
Side Effects of Cyclosporine 0.05% Ophthalmic Solution (Restasis Eye Drops)
During clinical trials the most common side effect following the use of Cyclosporine 0.05% and 0.1% Ophthalmic Solution was ocular burning (17%). Other reactions reported in 1% to 5% of patients included conjunctival hyperemia, discharge, epiphora, eye pain, foreign body sensation, pruritus, stinging, and visual disturbance (most often blurring).
The following adverse reactions have been identified during post approval use of Restasis Eye Drops (Cyclosporine 0.05% and 0.1% Ophthalmic Solution). Because these reactions are reported voluntarily from a population of uncertain size, it is not always possible to reliably estimate their frequency or establish a causal relationship to drug exposure.
Reported reactions have included: hypersensitivity (including eye swelling, urticaria, rare cases of severe angioedema, face swelling, tongue swelling, pharyngeal edema and dyspnea); and superficial injury of the eye (from the vial tip touching the eye during administration).
Cyclosporine Ophthalmic Emulsion ( Restasis 0.05% Eye Drops) During Pregnancy
Cyclosporine Ophthalmic Emulsion has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category C.
No evidence of embryofetal toxicity was observed in rats or rabbits receiving cyclosporine at oral doses up to 17 mg/kg/day or 30 mg/kg/day, respectively, during organogenesis. These doses in rats and rabbits are approximately 3,000 and 10,000 times greater (normalized to body surface area), respectively, than the daily human dose. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies of Cyclosporine Eye Drops in pregnant women. Restasis Eye Drops should be administered to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed.
Do not use this medicine without your doctor's consent in case you are pregnant. Stop using this medication and inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment.
