Naprosyn Mechanism of Action – How Does Naproxen Sodium Work?
Naprosyn (Generic Naproxen Sodium tablets) contains Naproxen as the active ingredient. Naprosyn tablets, similar to ibuprofen (Motrin), indomethacin (Indocin), nabumetone (Relafen) belong to a class of medications known as Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory drug (NSAID).
Naprosyn tablets decreases the pain and inflammation symptoms associated with various medical conditions such as arthritis, gout, muscle sprains and strains, back pain, neck pain, tendinitis, and period pain.
Naproxen Sodium obstructs the activity of cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes, which regulate the synthesis of chemical substances called prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are synthesized at the site of injury and are responsible for the pain and inflammation produced in a particular medical condition.
When Naproxen Sodium blocks the activity of COX enzymes, there is a decrease in the synthesis of prostaglandins, which eventually results in alleviation of pain and reduction of the inflammatory symptoms associated with various medical conditions.
