What are Predmet Tablets Used For?
Methylprednisolone, the active ingredient in Predmet tablets is a corticosteroid hormone that is used for the treatment of many inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, severe allergic disorders (allergic rhinitis , drug allergies, serum sickness, contact dermatitis, autoimmune haemolytic anaemia), gland disorders, certain cancers (lymphoma).
Predmet tablets are also used in conditions that affect the brain (meningitis), skin (eczema, pemphigus vulgaris, exfoliative dermatitis), eyes (optic neuritis, uveitis or iritis), heart (carditis), kidney, intestine, lungs (bronchial inflammation, asthma, tuberculosis, Sarcoidosis, gastric aspiration), stomach, bowel and gut (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), nervous system, muscle (dermatomyositis, polymyositis, and polymyalgia rheumatica), joints (rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic fever, juvenile chronic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis), blood and blood vessels (leukemia, giant cell arteritis).
Methylprednisolone also reduces the immune system reactions to various diseases such as swelling, pain, and allergic-type reactions. Methylprednisolone is used along with other medications to treat hormone disorders.
For example, Predmet tablets can be administered if the adrenal glands in the body are dysfunctional (adrenal insufficiency, congenital adrenal hyperplasia) and does not produce sufficient corticosteroid hormone.
The hormone corticosteroid is also useful in post-surgery recuperation (organ transplants) and in the treatment of injuries.
Methylprednisolone - Dosage
You should strictly follow the medication course for Methylprednisolone tablets (Predmet) as prescribed by your doctor because steroid hormones are used to treat different medical conditions. You doctor may sometimes alter your dosage to achieve the best possible results using the drug depending on your medical condition and your response to treatment.
Predmet tablets should be consumed during the morning time to imitate the adrenal gland’s natural secretion of corticosteroids. Methylprednisolone tablets should be taken after food to reduce stomach problems.
Make sure you stick to the doctor’s recommendations without increasing or decreasing the dosage levels and the dosage period. The lowest possible dosage of corticosteroid should be used to cure the medical condition under treatment. There are various problems that arise from the consumption of glucocorticoids medications. But these medical complications are dependent on the strength of the dose and the treatment period. These factors should be considered before making a decision about the patient’s therapy i.e. if the patient should consume the Predmet tablets every day or alternatingly.
When the dosage of Predmet tablets has to be lowered, the decrease in dosage should not be abrupt but it should be gradual and systematic. Consult your doctor about gradually decreasing the dosage levels of Predmet tablets towards the end of the medication course because abrupt discontinuation of Methylprednisolone tablets could lead to undesirable withdrawal symptoms.
Let your doctor know about any conditions such as serious illness, fever, infection, surgery, or any medical emergency that may develop during the medication course, so that the dosage can be modified accordingly.
Please consult your doctor for exact dosing instructions. Predmet tablets (Generic Methylprednisolone tablets) should be administered in the dose prescribed by the doctor and for the duration recommended by the doctor.
Missed Dose
In case you miss a dose of methylprednisolone tablets, please consult your doctor immediately for further instructions.
Predmet Mechanism of Action – How Does Methylprednisolone Work?
Methylprednisolone is the active ingredient in Predmet tablets. It is a steroid, known as corticosteroids. Corticosteroids are essential hormones which are naturally made by the adrenal glands in the human body. Corticosteroid medications are artificial versions of the natural hormones. Methylprednisolone is a synthetic corticosteroid which inhibits the discharge of inflammatory substances in the body that occurs in different disorders. It acts as an anti-inflammatory substance by inhibiting certain immune system substances which are required for immune and allergic reactions such as inflammation.
When Methylprednisolone decreases the release of these chemicals in the body, it results in the reduction of inflammation. Methylprednisolone works efficaciously to reduce the characteristic inflammation in several disease states and allergic reactions.
Methylprednisolone also reduces the circulation of white blood cells present in blood and prevents its reaction against the presence of a foreign tissue in the body. This useful feature of Methylprednisolone is beneficial to avoid organ rejection during transplant procedures.
Methylprednisolone is also used for the treatment of leukemia which is characterized by the manifestation of unusually large number of white blood cells. It is also suitable for the treatment of autoimmune diseases in which body’s immune system attacks its own tissues.
Corticosteroids are vital to a wide variety of organ functions. Sometimes, dysfunctional adrenal glands may result in decreased level of steroid hormones in the body. Methylprednisolone can be used as replacement therapy to normalize the levels of the corticosteroid hormone in the body and to restore the organ functions dependent on them.
