Lametec tablets, also known as Lamotrigine generic, are anti-epileptic medications. Lamotrigine tablets, containing Lamotrigine as the active ingredient, are also known for their anti-convulsant properties.

Lametec tablets, manufactured by Cipla Ltd. in strengths of 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg, are commonly used as oral therapy for the treatment of certain types of seizures. Lamotrigine tablets are antiepileptic medications, which can be used alone or in combination with other medications.
Lamotrigine tablets are used in combination with other medications for the treatment of partial seizures and generalized seizures of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome in adults and children who are at least 2 years old. Lamotrigine tablets are also recommended as monotherapy to patients suffering from partial seizures or typical absence seizures and are currently undergoing treatment with a single EIAED (e.g., carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, etc.) or valproate.
Lamotrigine tablets are used to effectively delay the incidence of mood swings in patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The typical symptoms of a bipolar disorder (manic depression) are extreme mood swings, with periods of mania (excitement or euphoria) with sporadic periods of depression (deep sadness or misery).

Lamotrigine Dosage - How to Take Lametec Tablets?

Generic Lamotrigine tablets should be administered exactly as suggested by your doctor. Your doctor may recommend a dosage of Lamotrigine tablets depending on your age, medical requirement, body weight, other medical conditions, and current medications. Lamotrigine tablets should be swallowed with a glass of water or milk.
Lamotrigine tablets should not be chewed or crushed in the mouth because breaking the pill open in the mouth will result in an excessive release of the drug in the body. Lamotrigine tablets are extended-release tablets which means that it is specifically designed for the slow release of the drug in the body. Lamotrigine tablets should be administered either before or preferably after a meal to avoid gastrointestinal problems.

Missed Dose

Lamotrigine Mechanism of Action – How Does Lametec Work?

Lamotrigine is an antiepileptic medication used for the treatment of seizure and bipolar disorder. Lamotrigine tablets are sodium channel blockers which act on the voltage-sensitive sodium channels present on the pre-synaptic nerves.
Through this action, Lamotrigine reduces the release of glutamate resulting in the stabilization of neuronal membranes and effectively inhibiting the discharge of excitatory neurotransmitters in the brain.

Storage

Store Lamotrigine tablets at controlled room temperature (20°C to 25°C), protected from heat, moisture, and sunlight. . Excursions are permitted from 15°C to 30°C.
Retain the original packing of the medication and do not consume Lamotrigine tablets (Lametec) beyond its expiration date printed on the blister pack. Contraindications

Overdose

Overdoses involving quantities up to 15 g have been reported for Lamotrigine, some of which have been fatal. Lametec Overdose has resulted in ataxia, nystagmus, seizures (including tonic-clonic seizures), decreased level of consciousness, coma, and intraventricular conduction delay.
There are no specific antidotes for Lamotrigine tablets. Following a suspected overdose, hospitalization of the patient is advised. General supportive care is indicated, including frequent monitoring of vital signs and close observation of the patient.
If indicated, emesis should be induced; usual precautions should be taken to protect the airway. It should be kept in mind that immediate-release Lamotrigine is rapidly absorbed.

Medical History

Lamotrigine Tablets - Driving and Other Activities

Lamotrigine Tablets
The administration of hormonal birth control pills during the course of treatment with Lamotrigine tablets may reduce the efficacy of Lamotrigine tablets and this can increase the incidence of seizures. Live Vaccinations, Surgery and Regular Medical Tests

The administration of Lamotrigine tablets during the first trimester of pregnancy increases the risk of the baby developing a cleft lip or a cleft palate. Lamotrigine is transmitted to a baby through breast milk and may result in undesirable effects on the feeding child. Nursing mothers should avoid breastfeeding an infant during the course of Lametec tablets.
