Mesalamine is an anti-inflammatory agent which belongs to a class of medications known as aminosalicylates. Mesalamine is the active substance of the compound called sulfasalazine. Sulfasalazine is divided into Sulfapyridine and Mesalamine due to the bacterial action in the colon.
