Finax (Generic Finasteride 1 mg) is a prescription medicine used to treat men with male pattern hair loss to increase hair growth on the scalp and to prevent further hair loss.
Safety and efficacy have been demonstrated in men between the ages of 18 to 41 years with mild-to-moderate hair loss of the vertex and anterior mid-scalp area.
Efficacy in bitemporal recession has not been established.Finax 1 mg is not indicated for use in women.

Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient

The active ingredient present in Finax tablets is Finasteride. Each film-coated Finax tablet contains 1 mg of Finasteride.

Uses of Finax Tablets

Finasteride is indicated for the treatment of men with male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) to increase hair growth and prevent further hair loss. Finasteride is not indicated for use in women or children and adolescents. For men with hair loss, finasteride will increase the number of scalp hairs but will not increase the amount of body hair. The effect of Finasteride will only last as long as the medicine is taken.

Finax Tablets - Dosage

The recommended dosage of Finax tablets is 1 mg orally once a day, with or without meals. In general, daily use for 3 months or more is necessary before benefit is observed.
Continued use is recommended to sustain benefit. If treatment is stopped, the beneficial effects begin to reverse by 6 months and return to baseline by 9 to 12 months.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take your regular Finax tablet dose on time, take it whenever you remember.
If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take your next dose when you are meant to. If it is not nearly time for your next dose, take it as soon as you remember, and then go back to taking your tablet as you would normally. Do not take a double dose to compensate the missed dose.

Mechanism of Action 

Finasteride is a competitive and specific inhibitor of type II 5a -reductase. Finasteride has no affinity for the androgen receptor and has no androgenic, anti-androgenic, oestrogenic, anti-oestrogenic, or progestational effects.
In male-pattern hair loss, a hormone called DHT (dihydrotestosterone) causes hair to become shorter and finer and eventually stop growing in the affected area.
Finasteride works by reducing the amount of DHT available by blocking an enzyme called 5a-reductase, which converts testosterone into DHT. Lower levels of DHT help improve hair growth in male pattern hair loss.
Finasteride inhibits a process responsible for miniaturisation of the scalp hair follicles, which can lead to reversal of the balding process.

Storage

Store Finax 1 mg tablets at controlled room temperature (20°C to 25°C),protected from heat, moisture, and sunlight. Excursions are permitted from 15°C to 30°C.
Do not consume Finax tablets after its expiration date printed on the blister pack. Do not dispose generic Finasteride 1 mg tablets along with other domestic waste. Finax tablets should be discarded in an environment-friendly manner.

Finax Tablets - Contraindications

Finax tablets are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Finasteride or any inactive ingredient present in tablets. Finax tablets are also contraindicated in the following cases:
Pregnancy. Finasteride use is contraindicated in women when they are or may potentially be pregnant. Because of the ability of Type II 5alpha-reductase inhibitors such as Finasteride to inhibit conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, Finasteride may cause abnormalities of the external genitalia of a male fetus when administered to a pregnant woman. If this drug is used during pregnancy, or if pregnancy occurs while taking this drug, the pregnant woman should be apprised of the potential hazard to the male fetus.
Finax Tablets should not be taken by men who are taking Finasteride 5 mg or any other 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor for benign prostatic hyperplasia or any other condition.

Overdose

During clinical studies, single doses of Finasteride (Finax 1 mg tablets) up to 400 mg and multiple doses of Finasteride up to 80 mg/day for three months did not result in adverse reactions. Until further experience is obtained, no specific treatment for an overdose with Finasteride can be recommended.
Significant lethality was observed in male and female mice at single oral doses of 1500 mg/m2 (500 mg/kg) and in female and male rats at single oral doses of 2360 mg/m2 (400 mg/kg) and 5900 mg/m2 (1000 mg/kg), respectively.

Warnings and Precautions

Paediatric population
Finax 1 mg tablets should not be used in children. There are no data demonstrating efficacy or safety of finasteride in children under the age of 18.
Effects on Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)
In clinical studies with 'Finax' in men 18-41 years of age, the mean value of serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) decreased from 0.7 ng/ml at baseline to 0.5 ng/ml at month 12. Doubling the PSA level in men taking 'Finax' should be considered before evaluating this test result.
Hepatic Impairment
The effect of hepatic insufficiency on the pharmacokinetics of Finasteride has not been studied.
Breast Cancer
Breast cancer has been reported in men taking Finasteride 1 mg during the post-marketing period.
Mood alterations and depression
Mood alterations including depressed mood, depression and, less frequently, suicidal ideation have been reported in patients treated with Finasteride 1 mg.
Lactose intolerance
Patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine.

Side Effects of Finasteride 1 mg (Finax Tablets)

Common side effects of Finasteride 1mg tablets include a decreased interest in sex, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorder (Decreased Volume of Ejaculate). These side effects occurred in 1% or more of patients taking Finasteride and greater than the patients treated with placebo during clinical trials.

Finasteride (Finax 1 mg Tablets) During Pregnancy

Finasteride (Finax 1 mg Tablets) has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category X.
Finax tablets are not indicated for use in women. Women must not handle crushed or broken Finax Tablets (Generic Finasteride 1mg) when they are pregnant or could possibly be pregnant because of the chance of absorption of Finasteride and the subsequent potential risk to a male foetus.
If a pregnant woman comes in contact with crushed or broken Finax tablets, the contact area should be washed immediately with soap and water.
