Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient

The active ingredient present in F-Pecia tablets is Finasteride. Each film-coated tablet contains 1 mg of Finasteride.

Uses of F-Pecia Tablets

Finasteride is used to treat men who have male pattern hair loss, also called androgenetic alopecia. For men with hair loss, finasteride will increase the number of scalp hairs but will not increase the amount of body hair. The effect of Finasteride will only last as long as the medicine is taken. F-Pecia is not indicated for use in women

F-Pecia Tablets - Dosage

The recommended dosage of F-Pecia tablets is 1 mg orally once a day, with or without meals. In general, daily use for 3 months or more is necessary before benefit is observed.
Continued use is recommended to sustain benefits, which should be re-evaluated periodically. Withdrawal of treatment leads to a reversal of effect within 12 months.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take your regular F-pecia tablet dose on time, take it whenever you remember.

Mechanism of Action 

Finasteride is a competitive and specific inhibitor of type II 5a -reductase. Finasteride has no affinity for the androgen receptor and has no androgenic, anti-androgenic, oestrogenic, anti-oestrogenic, or progestational effects. Inhibition of this enzyme blocks the peripheral conversion of testosterone to the androgen DHT, resulting in significant decreases in serum and tissue DHT concentrations. Finasteride produces a rapid reduction in serum DHT concentration, reaching significant suppression within 24 hours of dosing.
Hair follicles contain type II 5a -reductase. In men with male pattern hair loss, the balding scalp contains miniaturised hair follicles and increased amounts of DHT. Administration of finasteride decreases scalp and serum DHT concentrations in these men. Men with a genetic deficiency of type II 5a -reductase do not suffer from male pattern hair loss. Finasteride inhibits a process responsible for miniaturisation of the scalp hair follicles, which can lead to reversal of the balding process.

Storage

Store F-Pecia 1 mg tablets at controlled room temperature (20°C to 25°C),protected from heat, moisture, and sunlight. Excursions are permitted from 15°C to 30°C.
Do not consume F-pecia tablets after its expiration date printed on the blister pack. Do not dispose generic Finasteride 1 mg tablets along with other domestic waste. F-pecia tablets should be discarded in an environment-friendly manner.

F-Pecia Tablets - Contraindications

F-Pecia tablets are contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to Finasteride or any inactive ingredient present in tablets. F-Pecia tablets are also contraindicated in the following cases:
Pregnancy. Finasteride use is contraindicated in women when they are or may potentially be pregnant. Because of the ability of Type II 5 a-reductase inhibitors to inhibit the conversion of testosterone to 5a-dihydrotestosterone (DHT), finasteride may cause abnormalities of the external genitalia of a male fetus of a pregnant woman who receives finasteride. If this drug is used during pregnancy, or if pregnancy occurs while taking this drug, the pregnant woman should be apprised of the potential hazard to the male fetus.
F-Pecia Tablets should not be taken by men who are taking Finasteride 5 mg or any other 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor for benign prostatic hyperplasia or any other condition.

Overdose

In clinical studies, single doses of Finasteride (F-Pecia 1 mg tablets) up to 400 mg and multiple doses of Finasteride up to 80 mg/day for three months did not result in adverse reactions. Until further experience is obtained, no specific treatment for an overdose with Finasteride can be recommended.
Significant lethality was observed in male and female mice at single oral doses of 1500 mg/m2 (500 mg/kg) and in female and male rats at single oral doses of 2360 mg/m2 (400 mg/kg) and 5900 mg/m2 (1000 mg/kg), respectively.

Warnings and Precautions

Paediatric population
F-Pecia 1 mg tablets should not be used in children. There are no data demonstrating efficacy or safety of finasteride in children under the age of 18.
Effects on Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)
In clinical studies with 'F-Pecia' in men 18-41 years of age, the mean value of serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) decreased from 0.7 ng/ml at baseline to 0.5 ng/ml at month 12. Doubling the PSA level in men taking 'F-pecia' should be considered before evaluating this test result.
Hepatic Impairment
The effect of hepatic insufficiency on the pharmacokinetics of Finasteride has not been studied.
Breast Cancer
Breast cancer has been reported in men taking Finasteride 1 mg during the post-marketing period.
Mood alterations and depression
Mood alterations including depressed mood, depression and, less frequently, suicidal ideation have been reported in patients treated with Finasteride 1 mg.
Lactose intolerance
Patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine.

Side Effects of Finasteride 1 mg (F-Pecia Tablets)

Side effects reported in 1% or more of patients treated with Finasteride tablets or placebo are Decreased Libido, Erectile Dysfunction, Ejaculation Disorder (Decreased Volume of Ejaculate) and sexual adverse experiences.

Finasteride (F-Pecia 1 mg Tablets) During Pregnancy

Finasteride (F-Pecia 1 mg Tablets) has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category X.
F-Pecia tablets are not indicated for use in women. Women must not handle crushed or broken F-Pecia Tablets (Generic Finasteride 1mg) when they are pregnant or could possibly be pregnant because of the chance of absorption of Finasteride and the subsequent potential risk to a male foetus.
