Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel 2% (Candid-V Gel) - Product Information

Generic Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel (Candid-V Gel) is an antifungal intravaginal medication which is administered for the treatment of vaginal yeast infection symptoms such as itching, soreness, and redness around the exterior area of the vagina and a thick, Gely white, odorless vaginal discharge. The active ingredient in Candid Vaginal Gel is Clotrimazole, which belongs to a group of medications called imidazoles. Clotrimazole is a broad-spectrum anti-fungal agent which treats the fungal infection by preventing the growth and survival of fungi and yeast such as Candida albicans and other Candida species.
Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel can be applied deep into the inner layers of the vagina. Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel in combination with Clotrimazole Gel (applied in the exterior areas of the vagina for itching and soreness) is used as treatment for vaginal thrush. In our online pharmacy, Candid-V Vaginal Gel, manufactured by Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. is available in a 30 g tube which contains 20 mg of Clotrimazole per gram.

Candid Vaginal Gel Dosage - How to Apply Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel?

Generic Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel is an antifungal medication and should be used exactly as suggested by your doctor. During the application of Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel, the vaginal applicator should be filled to the brim with Candid Vaginal Gel so that it is completely packed with the Gel. Insert the applicator filled with the Gel into the inner vaginal layers every night, before bedtime for six successive nights. Continue the treatment with Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel even if you feel that the symptoms have considerably reduced. For optimum distribution of Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel to the affected areas, pull your legs in a little towards the body while lying on the back so that the Gel may spread into the inner vaginal layers. Depending on your medical condition and the severity of the vaginal infection, your doctor may recommend the administration of Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel twice a day, preferably once in the morning and once in the evening for a period of 6 to 12 days. Although Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel can be used during menstruation, it is recommended that the treatment with Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel is completed before the start of menstruation.
In women suffering from candida vulvitis or vulvo-vaginitis, Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel is administered in combination with Clotrimazole Gel which is applied as a thin layer to the external genitalia 2 to 3 times a day for a period of 1 to 2 weeks. Patients should continue the treatment with Clotrimazole topical Gel for about 2 weeks after the skin symptoms have significantly disappeared. Continuous treatment with Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel for this time period will ensure that you do not develop a relapse of the vaginal infection.

Candid Mechanism of Action – How Does Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel Work?

Clotrimazole vaginal cream works by damaging the fungal cell membrane, specifically by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a crucial component of the membrane. This disruption leads to increased permeability of the membrane, causing essential elements to leak out and ultimately inhibiting fungal growth or causing cell death.
Ergosterol Synthesis Inhibition:
Clotrimazole, like other azole antifungals, interferes with the production of ergosterol, a substance vital for the structure and function of the fungal cell membrane.
Membrane Damage:
By blocking ergosterol synthesis, clotrimazole weakens the fungal cell membrane. This membrane is responsible for controlling what enters and exits the cell, so the damage leads to leakage of vital cellular components.
Fungistatic or Fungicidal:
Depending on the concentration of clotrimazole at the site of infection, its action can be either fungistatic (slowing down fungal growth) or fungicidal (killing the fungus)

Candid Vaginal Gel - Missed Dose

If you miss your regular dose of Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel, apply it as soon as you remember. You can continue your regular schedule the next day. If you remember the missed dose of Clotrimazole Vaginal Gel the next day, apply the Gel as per your regular dosing schedule and skip the missed dose. Do not administer   a double dose to compensate the missed dose of Candid Vaginal Gel.
