Caberdost Tablets (Cabergoline 0.25 mg and 0.5 mg) - Product Information
Cabergoline (Caberdost tablets) is used to treat different types of medical conditions that occur when too much of the hormone prolactin is produced. It can be used to treat certain menstrual problems, fertility problems in men and women, and pituitary prolactinomas (tumors of the pituitary gland). Cabergoline can also be useful in the treatment of sleep disturbances associated with advanced Parkinson's disease such as nocturnal akinesia and dystonia.
Caberdost tablets which contain Cabergoline as the active ingredient, belongs to a class of medications known as dopaminergic drugs. Cabergoline enhances the amount of dopamine neurotransmitter in the brain. Caberdost tablets interacts with the dopamine receptors present on the cells to lessen the blood levels of the female hormone called prolactin, which is secreted by the pituitary gland.
Caberdost tablets are also prescribed for the effective treatment of patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease. Many body-builders and weight-training athletes take Generic Cabergoline tablets throughout the anabolic steroid cycles to enhance muscle mass. Bodybuilders also use Caberdost tablets to reduce the risk of certain undesirable side effects such as gynecomastia that occur due to the use of anabolic steroids.

What are Caberdost Tablets Used For?
Caberdost tablets, manufactured by HAB Pharmaceuticals & Research Limited, India (Signature) in strengths of 0.5 mg of Cabergoline, increases the level of dopamine neurotransmitter activity in the brain by working as a dopamine receptor agonist. Caberdost tablets are generally prescribed as oral therapy to lower the blood level of prolactin hormone in patients detected with hyperprolactinemia. Hyperprolactinemia is medical condition which is characterized by aberrantly higher blood levels of prolactin hormone due to the growth of a non-cancerous enlargement (tumor) in the pituitary gland.
Caberdost tablets(Cabergoline) are indicated for:
Treatment of hyperprolactinemic disorders:
Caberdost is indicated for the treatment of hyperprolactinemic disorders, either idiopathic or due to pituitary adenomas.
Inhibition of physiological lactation:
Caberdost is indicated for the prevention of the onset of physiological lactation in the puerperium for clearly defined medical reasons. These medical reasons may include birth of a still born baby, neonatal death, conditions interfering with suckling (cleft lip or palate of the baby), severe acute or chronic mental illness or medical conditions, maternal disease which may be transmitted to the baby that require medications which are excreted in the milk.
Patients diagnosed with the mental disorder called Parkinson’s disease are also recommended treatment with Caberdost tablets. Parkinson’s patients are found to have a reduced level of dopamine transmission in the brain. The typical symptoms of Parkinson’s disease are rigidity of the body, shaking (tremor), loss of muscle coordination, imbalance, and slow body movement. Generic Cabergoline tablets reduces the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease by intensifying the level of dopamine transmission in the brain and increasing the communication between brain cells.
Bodybuilders participating in professional bodybuilding contests are administered Caberdost tablets (Cabergoline tablets) along with other dietary supplements during the steroid cycle to attain enlarged muscle mass and effective weight loss by losing excessive body fat.
Numerous weight training professionals and bodybuilders have used Caberdost tablets to decrease the occurrence of undesirable side effects of anabolic steroid cycle such as gynecomastia (breast enlargement).

Doctors usually prescribe a dosage of 0.25 mg Caberdost tablet (Cabergoline), administered twice a week. Your doctor will steadily increase the dosage of Caberdost tablets through the next few weeks depending on the amount of prolactin hormone in your blood so that the incidence of unfavorable side effects can be eliminated. Treatment with Generic Cabergoline tablets should be carried on for a course of six months after the normal blood prolactin level has been attained. Your doctor may closely observe your blood prolactin levels through regular blood tests to verify the effectiveness of Caberdost tablets.

Caberdost Mechanism of Action – How Does Cabergoline Work?
Caberdost tablets (Generic Cabergoline tablets) which are artificial versions of the dopamine neurotransmitter, behaves like a dopamine receptor agonist. Cabergoline impersonates the characteristics of the dopamine neurotransmitter which successfully impedes the pituitary gland from secreting prolactin hormone into the blood. It works by stopping the brain from making and releasing the prolactin hormone from the pituitary gland. Cabergoline use is usually stopped when prolactin levels are normal for 6 months. It may be given again if symptoms of too much prolactin occur again.

Warnings and Precautions to be taken when using Caberdost Tablets
Medical History
Before beginning the treatment with Caberdost tablets (Generic Cabergoline tablets), discuss your personal and family medical history with your doctor. Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, high blood pressure (hypertension), heart valve disease, abnormal scarring/thickening of the lining in the lungs/heart/behind the abdomen(pulmonary/pericardial/retroperitoneal fibrosis), pregnant or breast-feeding, stomach ulcer, liver problems, circulation problem called Raynaud's syndrome, psychotic disorder, rare inherited blood disorder called porphyria. Pregnancy:
Dopamine agonists in general should not be used in patients with pregnancy-induced hypertension, for example, preeclampsia, eclampsia, and postpartum hypertension, unless the potential benefit is judged to outweigh the possible risk.
Cardiovascular
Cabergoline should be given with caution to subjects with cardiovascular disease and Raynaud's syndrome. Symptomatic hypotension can occur with cabergoline administration. Care should be exercised when administering cabergoline concomitantly with other drugs known to lower blood pressure.
Cardiac Valvulopathy
All patients should undergo a cardiovascular evaluation, including echocardiogram to assess the potential presence of valvular disease. If valvular disease is detected, the patient should not be treated with cabergoline
Gastrointestinal
Cabergoline should be given with caution to subjects with peptic ulcer and gastrointestinal bleeding.
Hepatic
Since cabergoline is extensively metabolised by the liver, caution should be used, and careful monitoring exercised, when administering cabergoline to patients with hepatic impairmen
Extracardiac Fibrotic Reactions
Postmarketing cases of pleural, pericardial, and retroperitoneal fibrosis have been reported following administration of cabergoline. Some reports were in patients previously treated with other ergotinic dopamine agonists. Cabergoline should not be used in patients with a history of cardiac or extracardiac fibrotic disorders.
Neurologic
Cabergoline has been associated with somnolence. Sudden sleep onset episodes that can be associated with dopamine agonists usually occur in patients with Parkinson's disease. A reduction of dosage or termination of therapy may be considered.
Psychiatric
Cabergoline should be given with caution to subjects with a history of mental disease.
Renal
Cabergoline should be given with caution to subjects with renal insufficiency

Cabergoline (Caberdost Tablets) During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Cabergoline has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category B.
Reproduction studies have been performed with cabergoline in mice, rats, and rabbits administered by gavage. There are, however, no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, this medication should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
Do not use this medicine without your doctor's consent in case you are pregnant. Stop using this medication and inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment.
Based on information from animal studies, excretion in human milk is very likely. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk and because of the potential for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants from Cabergoline, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
