Betnovate-S Cream is anti-inflammation medication which is topically administered for the treatment of various skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, and seborrhea. Betnovate-S Cream, which belongs to a group of medications called topical corticosteroids, contains a combination of two active ingredients called Betamethasone Valerate and Salicylic Acid. Salicylic acid softens the uppermost layer of scales on the exterior surface of the skin, which occur due to a particular skin problem. This action of Salicylic Acid enables Betamethasone to spread into the deep layers of skin for better healing. Betnovate-S Cream is applied on the external surface (skin) to alleviate the symptoms of skin inflammation such as redness, swelling, and itching that develop due to skin problems. Each 20 g tube of Betnovate-S Cream supplied by   our online pharmacy, contains 0.1% w/w of Betamethasone Valerate and 3.0% w/w of Salicylic Acid IP.

Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient

Betnovate-S Cream contains a combination of two active ingredients called Betamethasone Valerate and Salicylic Acid. Each 20 g tube of Betnovate-S Skin Cream contains Betamethasone Valerate 0.1% w/w + Salicylic Acid IP 3.0 % w/w. The inactive ingredients present in Betnovate-S Cream are liquid paraffin and white soft paraffin.

What is Betnovate-S Cream Used For?

Betnovate-S Cream, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline in the strength of Betamethasone Valerate 0.1% w/w + Salicylic Acid IP 3.0 % w/w, is an anti-inflammation medication. Betnovate-S Cream is commonly used as topical therapy to reduce the inflammatory symptoms such as redness, swelling, and itching which commonly occur due to skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis, contact dermatitis and seborrhea. Betnovate-S Skin Cream which contains a combination of two active ingredients called Betamethasone Valerate and Salicylic Acid, belongs to a class of medications called topical corticosteroids. Salicylic acid degrades the keratin protein that is present at the exterior surface as tough and stiffened skin, which results in the shedding of the skin cells to clear the area of treatment of the skin cells. This action of Salicylic acid enables the permeation of Betamethasone into the problematic areas of the skin and makes it more efficacious. 

Betnovate-S Cream Dosage - How to Apply Betnovate-S Cream?

Betnovate-S Cream is a topical anti-inflammation medication and should be used exactly as suggested by your doctor. Your doctor may recommend a dosage of Betnovate-S Skin depending on your age, medical requirement, body weight, other medical conditions, and current medications. Betnovate-S should be applied as a thin layer on the skin. Avoid sensitive areas like the area around the eyes, lips, and nostrils. You should be systematic about the schedule for the medication such that you apply Betnovate-S Skin Cream at the same time every day, to get the maximum benefit of the medication. Betnovate-S Cream is applied two to three times a day depending upon the severity of the skin problem, skin type and rate of absorption of Betnovate-S Cream. Course of treatment with Betnovate-S Skin Cream should not exceed 5 days.

Betnovate-S Cream - Missed Dose

If you miss your regular dose of Betnovate-S Skin Cream, apply the cream as per the dosage as soon as you remember. You can continue your regular schedule the next day. If you remember the missed dose Betnovate-S Cream the next day, apply the cream as per your regular dosing instructions and skip the missed dose. Do not administer two applications of the cream to compensate the missed dose of Betnovate-S Cream.

Storage Instructions for Betnovate-S Cream

Store the pack of Betnovate-S Cream at room temperature (20 – 25°C), protected from heat, moisture, and sunlight. Retain the original packing of the medication and do not use Betnovate-S (Betnovate-S) beyond its expiration date. Keep the pack of Betnovate-S Skin Cream away from the reach of children and pets. Do not discard Betnovate-S Cream along with domestic waste or sewage. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about the correct method of disposal.

Warnings and Precautions to be taken when using Betnovate-S Cream

Medical History
Before beginning the treatment with Betnovate-S Skin Cream, discuss your personal and family medical history with your doctor. Inform your doctor if you have any existing medical conditions such as rosacea (a skin condition affecting the face), acne, dermatitis (skin inflammation) around the mouth, genital itching, nappy rash, cold sores, chickenpox or other skin conditions which may affect the treatment with Betnovate-S Cream.

Allergy
Please inform your doctor if you have an allergy or have had an allergic reaction in the past to Betamethasone Valerate or Salicylic Acid or any inactive ingredient in Betnovate-S Cream. Please tell your doctor if you have any other allergies.  

Betnovate-S Cream Interactions

Before beginning the topical therapy of Betnovate-S Skin Cream, please tell your doctor about all your present medications including prescription drugs, over the counter medications, mineral supplements, herbal products, and vitamins. Betnovate-S Cream may have drug interactions with certain other medications.

Betnovate-S Contraindications

Betnovate-S Cream are contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to Betamethasone Valerate or Salicylic Acid or to any inactive ingredient present in Betnovate-S Cream. Treatment with Betnovate-S Skin Cream is also contraindicated in patients who have chickenpox, fungal, yeast, or viral skin lesions, herpes simplex, tuberculosis of the skin, and vaccinia.

Betnovate-S Cream during Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The effect of Betnovate-S Cream on the growth and development of an unborn baby is unknown. It is still not known if the ingredients of Betnovate-S Skin Cream is secreted into breastmilk. It is preferred that expectant women and breast feeding mothers, who are using  Betnovate-S  Cream for their skin conditions, should consult with their doctor to discern the therapeutic advantages and associated hazards of the medication.

Side Effects of Betnovate-S Cream

The following side effects have been reported during the course of treatment with Betnovate-S Cream:

• Hypersensitivity- burning, irritation, blistering, hives, peeling, itching, redness or scaling, skin rash, stinging, burning, swelling of the skin at the site of treatment
• Dermatological System- thinning of the skin, loss of elasticity, excessive hair growth (hypertrichosis), inflammation of hair follicles, dermatitis (skin inflammation), acne at the site of application, mild depigmentation, rosacea, stretch marks, groupings of fine blood vessels becoming prominent under the skin (telangiectasia), skin dryness

Inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of these side effects. This is not an exhaustive list of all the potential side effects of Betnovate-S Skin Cream. If you develop any other medical conditions during the course of treatment with Betnovate-S Cream, please inform your doctor immediately and discontinue use of Betnovate-S Cream.
