Asthalin Tablets - Mechanism of Action – How Does Albuterol Work?
Albuterol Sulfate belongs to a class of drugs known as beta-2-adrenergic agonist, which activates the beta-2-adrenergic receptors in the lungs. This stimulation of the receptors in the lungs relaxes the smooth muscles in the bronchial respiratory pathways. Scientific data indicates that Albuterol Sulfate activates the enzyme adenylate cyclase to increase the synthesis of cAMP molecules in the cell. The production of cAMP molecules in the cell are responsible for the therapeutic consequences of Albuterol Sulfate.
Increased levels of cAMP within the cell brings about an increase in the action of cAMP-dependent protein kinase A, an enzyme which hinders the phosphorylation of myosin and moderates the calcium levels. When there is a decrease in the amount of calcium in the cell, the smooth muscles in the bronchial pathways undergo a relaxation effect, resulting in bronchodilation.
Albuterol Sulphate tablets also impede the action of bronchoconstricting substances which are discharged by mast cells, obstructs microvascular leakage, and enhances mucociliary clearance.
