Osteofos Tablets (Alendronate Sodium) - Product Information
Osteofos tablets, also known as Alendronate Sodium Generic, are prescribed for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis that develops as a result of different medical conditions.
Osteofos tablets contain Alendronate Sodium as the active ingredient, which belongs to the bisphosphonate class of medications. Alendronate Sodium tablets prevents bone breakdown and enhances bone density (thickness), and thus are beneficial for the maintenance of well-built bones. Alendronate Sodium tablets (Osteofos) are recommended as oral therapy for the treatment of osteoporosis in post-menopausal women.
Alendronate Sodium tablets are also useful for increasing the bone density in adult patients who are undergoing an extended corticosteroid (gluccocorticoid) treatment. Alendronate tablets are effectively used to increase the bone mass in men suffering from osteoporosis. Patients diagnosed with osteoporosis experience a decrease in bone strength through time, thus increasing the probability of fractures. Alendronate Sodium tablets enhance and toughen the bones, thus effectively reducing the possibility of bone fracture.
Generic Alendronate Sodium tablets are also recommended as therapy for the treatment of Paget's disease in adults. In our online pharmacy, Osteofos tablets are available in the strength of 10 mg, 35 mg, and 70 mg of Alendronate Sodium.

Alendronate Sodium Mechanism of Action – How Does Osteofos Tablets Work?
Alendronate Sodium (Osteofos tablets) is a bisphosphonate medication which delays the process of bone loss. The human bone continually undergoes alteration, structurally and dimensionally. The protein network of calcium and phosphorous minerals determines the shape of the bone. The human bone consists of specific cells called osteoblasts and osteoclasts, which function for the continuous accumulation and elimination of calcium and phosphorous minerals in the bone. Osteoclasts control the breakdown of old bone and osteoblasts manage the development of new bone.
Women undergoing the phase of menopause experience a decrease in the blood levels of the female hormone called estrogen. This drop in estrogen levels result in an increase in the rate of bone breakdown by the osteoclasts, eventually leading to a loss in bone density. The rate of bone loss is especially high during the first ten years immediately following menopause, which may lead to the advancement of osteoporosis - a medical condition characterized by weak and brittle bones which are prone to fractures.
Alendronate exerts its therapeutic action by establishing a strong attachment to the bone structure, thus effectively hindering the displacement of calcium accomplished by the osteoclasts. This osteoclast obstruction permits Alendronate to avert the occurrence bone damage by extending the bone thickness i.e. bone mineral density, resulting in tougher bones which are less vulnerable to damage.
