Spironolactone Tablets (Aldactone Tablets) - Product Information

Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic (water pill) which are orally administered for the treatment of high blood pressure and also fluid retention in patients with medical conditions such as congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), hypokalemia (low potassium levels in blood), and nephrotic syndrome (kidney disorder).
Aldactone tablets prevent fluid retention by inhibiting the absorption of excessive salt and retain the potassium levels in blood. Spironolactone tablets of strengths 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg are available at our online pharmacy.
We also have in stock Amlodipine Besylate tablets (Amlopres) which are prescribed as oral therapy for the treatment of high blood pressure and chest pain in adults and children who are at least 6 years old.

What are Aldactone Tablets Used For?

Spironolactone tablets are used for the treatment of high blood pressure which helps in prevention of adverse medical conditions such as strokes, heart attacks and kidney disorders. Keep in mind that Spironolactone tablets can only help regulate high blood pressure and not cure it.
Spironolactone tablets also prevent fluid retention, improve breathing difficulties and weight conditions which develop during congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis and kidney disorders (nephrotic syndrome).
Spironolactone tablets are also known as potassium-sparing diuretic (water pill) because they are also used for the treatment of low potassium levels in the body (hypokalemia) due to the presence of increased aldosterone hormone (hyperaldosteronism).
Spironolactone for PCOS:
Aldactone tablets are also prescribed for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) patients who have excessive hair growth (hirsutism). In women with PCOS, Spironolactone tablets also reduce male-pattern hair growth (hirsutism), hair loss, and acne.
Aldactone for Acne:
Spironolactone (Aldactone tablets) are also used to treat localized skin inflammation (acne) due to the occurrence of oil glands at the base of hair follicles.

Drug Dosage

Generic Spironolactone tablets (Aldactone) are to be orally administered along with food or a glass of milk to avoid digestion problems. Consume the Aldactone tablets regularly and at the same time everyday to get the maximum therapeutic benefit of the medication.
It is preferably recommended to take Aldactone tablets early in the day (i.e. before 6 p.m.) to avoid the trouble of waking up during the night to pass urine.
Take the dosage of Spironolactone tablets exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The usual daily dosage of Spironolactone for acne treatment is 50 - 100 mg. Your doctor will prescribe the dosage of Spironolactone tablets depending on your medical condition and your response to treatment. Do not alter the dosage or the dosage period without consulting your doctor.
Also, do not discontinue the course of Spironolactone tablets without informing your doctor because abrupt termination of Aldactone tablets may result in adverse conditions.

Spironolactone Tablets - Missed Dose

If you forget to take a dose of Spironolactone tablets on the same day, take it as soon as you remember. However, if you remember the next day, skip the missed dose and take your scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose to compensate the missed dose.

Aldactone Mechanism of Action - How Does Spironolactone Work?

Aldosterone is a hormone produced by the human adrenal glands to regulate the salt and water stability in the body.
In medical conditions such as heart failure and liver cirrhosis, there is an increase in the aldosterone levels in blood. Excess aldosterone hormone in the body induces the kidneys to retain large amounts of salt and fluid while reducing the potassium levels in the body.
Spironolactone tablets control the aldosterone hormone, resulting in the normal function of kidneys i.e. excreting salt and fluid through the urine while retaining potassium. Spironolactone tablets are, hence, known as potassium-sparing diuretic which means that it is a drug which promotes the release of urine (diuretic) while inducing the kidneys to retain potassium.
